Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

This is clearly a software issue that can be resolve with future updates I don't get why everyone here is overreacting. The phone just released and while I'm lowkey **bleep** Samsung hasn't fixed it yet this is nowhere near big enough of an issue to return the phone. Chill..

Everyone's frustrated because Samsung is saying that the dull colors are intentional as they "tuned" the S24 display to look more natural. They basically took away a core feature that a lot of people enjoy and now they're telling us to deal with it.

The problem is they haven't officially come out and say something. We only have 14 days to return the phone and would like to know if it will be fixed or not in order to make a decision.

Wanted to switch from S23 Ultra to S24 Ultra and got the new one this week.

Not sure why everyone believes a support chat employee Samsung works on a fix. It's funny.. 100% they don't do. No official statement else than it's intentional.

Sorry.. Homework not done Samsung. And maybe to fire the Head of Quality Control for that.

I will wait 1 week for any news on this. But phone is packed and return label printed. So it's going back to Samsung and I'll see what the S25 Ultra will provide.

Additionally the new S24 Ultra display is brightness is even lower than S23 Ultra in a 1:1 at same highest level of brightness. So the old one shines brighter.

Another issue: the Samsung gallery app provides nice enhancements on pictures but this won't apply if you use a 3rd party app. So Samsung let look pictures on their gallery better by software. Looks great if you compare against S23 Ultra. But when you look at the pictures at a different device like on a pc.. No major difference.

My opinion about Samsung saying that the vivid mode was set to be more accurate and comfortable, and I am sure that their Natural mode in S24 series And their previous phones is also dull compared to competitors and inaccurate, and needs to be fixed They did not satisfy any of their customers

Also, the problem of lack of saturation in Natural mode has increased more compared to previous generations. You can see that the Natural mode in the S23 Ultra is more saturated than the S24 Ultra, so do not let them deceive you and make you stop making claims.

All they have to do is fix the gamma tracking to 2.2 In Natural mode

The question, Justin from Samsung, is Samsung going to fix these washed out colors on the s24 ultra or are we doomed to suffer a less than excellent experience on it. We'd really like to know as we only have a 30 day return window, and I for one feel like it's a deal breaker without a fix to this.
