Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

When I switch from vivid to natural I literally see no change in color intensity, it's like the same setting. Also having issues with Android Auto connectivity on my 2022 Chevy

There's a problem with the screen and Samsung has yet to make an official comment about it. With android auto.. I uninstalled all updates.. Installed again. Fixed my issue of music cutting off and creating a delay. One time I timed it, 7 seconds delay. Using AAwireless though dongle.. Sounds like everyone else has not been able to make it work.

There's a ton of posts about it on these forums.. Many are returning their phones because Samsung won't admit to the problem

One of the countries Samsungs reps said the screen is like thar intentionally, then why even have a switch for natural to vivid if it does nothing , right lol

So it sounds like you're saying that there is 0 difference on the test image in settings when you flip the toggle from natural to vivid? If that is happening on your display, then your phone is definitely defective. My test image clearly changes when I switch between the 2 options. Is it night and day...not at all. But there is definitely a difference. Having said that, if you switch out of settings after making a change, the difference isn't drastic enough that you'd be able to see a big difference. But just because your eyes can't tell that subtle difference when you switch out of settings doesn't necessarily mean there is zero change. It's just subtle.

Just going by my previous phone the S22 Ultra...that was definitely a noticeable change opposed to the 24Ultra

Exactly. There is a small difference. I compared it with a s22 and an iPhone 12. Natural looks exactly like iPhone and vivid is a bit more punchy but not as much as s22. Samsung is going for the Natural realistic colors. I don't think they want the super unrealistic colors anymore

Samsung has mislead consumers by not disclosing the change in color depth and vividness before release and instead focusing on how it will be more bright. I am sure if they had announced more dull colors prior to launch, most of us wouldn't have bought it. Shameful behavior.
This tactic meets criteria for a class action suit, if the dull colors actually are intentional as they're insisting.
