Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

The Samsung product manager responsible for messing with Galaxy S24 Vivid mode collors is out of they mind. Whatever the reasoning for making Vivid mode collors dull and blick, give me an option to set it to the same setting as my older Galaxy.

Fix the Vivid mode now Samsung!!!

I made a comparison between the s24 ultra, s22 ultra, and my work iPhone 12. Setting up all devices same brightness and app store apps. You will see the s24 ultra clearly in the middle. Samsung is going for the Natural realistic look. First time I can tell the unrealistic punchy colors of the s22 ultra. Seems Samsung has decided to change going forward

They should retain the classic/legacy Vivid mode. It's a color profile, nothing says there has to be one, or two, or three, or ten. They had 2, so they need 3 now. It's so simple, but they are probably going to be like Microsoft, who had to do Win8 UI, Win10, to finally get back to Win7 UI a bit with Win11, but still subpar.

Main reason I buy samsung is for the vibrant vivid colors. Coming from a note 20 ultra and it looks like a downgrade. Had brighter white highlights, contrast, and vibrant colors. Like having hdr and then taking it away. Please give us the options if we want to set it to true vivid. Main perk for android is being able to customize to are liking. Feels like a apple move. This is how it is and deal with it! Please give us the option back. I really hope it's just a software bug in the vivid tab.

Exactly! Samsung, give us an option to set Vivid mode to exactly how it was set on all previous Galaxy phones!

I hate the dull display on my new S24. It is not pleasant to look at.
I sure hope they do an update to fix this or I will be getting a different phone.
They took away at least one option to be able to change the display.

Give us a 3rd display option please. Natural, vivid, true amoled vibrant. More options the better. Main reason why most of us like samsung and not apple.
