Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

How honest are all these online S24 Ultra phone review posts ???
All I see online is S24 Ultra reviews raving about the phones screen , are they looking at a different phone or did they receive specially tweeked phones ?
It took me about 2 minutes to see the difference between the S22 Ultra/S23 Ultra and the S24 Ultra screen. At first glance it appears different,, much more washed out looking. Then when placing the S24 Ultra in vivid mode,, wow the difference is shockingly dull and less vibrant. A person next to me asked if I was looking at a cheaper entry level phone. Simply search " 4k sunset " on the S24 Ultra in vivid mode and place it next to an older S22 or S24 Ultra in vivid mode and the difference between the sunset pictures are shocking. YES I know some people prefer natural mode, and thats great,, it's your choice,,, but please dont dismiss the great number of us Samsung customers who have been sold on Samsungs VIVID mode- and punchy bright eye popping colors on our displays. To ignore us is the same as saying I like vanilla ice cream so there is no need to sell chocolate ice cream since I dont enjoy it as much.
The screen issue is so obvious, plus there have been reports of green lines appearing on the screen,, issues with poor camera results, faulty battery charging and the other elephant in the room ( AI ) may be just a one year free trial as Samsung decides if it wishes to monetize AI usage next year - yet almost NON OF THIS IS SHOWING UP ON ONLINE S24 ULTRA REVIEWS !! Leaves me to really wonder about the honesty of these reviews. Plus , where does Samsung officially stand on these issues ? The company seems shockingly quiet about all this.
At the price we are all paying for this phone unit, I would expect more information given in reviews and more clarity from Samsung.

What are his/her sources for claiming this? This is the same person who posted "Samsung will fix..." in January based on that agent screenshot that has been circulating on the web for a week and everyone keeps regurgitating. And no actual sentences are being used, like "this is my wishlist" (lol) or "confirmed by Samsung to be included in the February update". In fact it lists the vivid fix alongside the patch, as if it wouldn't be part of it. I don't believe anything. It will be fixed or it won't be. If it doesn't get fixed with upcoming update, I have little faith it will at all. But my time for returns is closing, so I'll probably be forced to send it back

You are spot on. That person made it up.

We are all waiting for Samsung to respond.

That isn't an official Samsung X. Just a reseller basically that recycles articles. Could be accurate but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Samsung hasn't released a statement.

So where did you get your information from?

So, all our posts have gone into the, "known issue solved" category for the horrible displays we bought for 1300+ dollars. Just read on Android Police or one of those online review pages that when we tag the display issue they just get filed in the now 145 page list of people who are unhappy with their phone. I had 1300 dollars basically stolen from me. The phone, has been proven by display scientists not to reach 100% color production and pixels that are not firing at full strength. Either they recall this phone or send out display kits to have them installed or the attorney general will be informed. They knowingly sent out displays that were not operating at 100% and did nothing about it. Everyone, do what you can to let your friends and their friends know about the underhanded tactics Samsung has committed. The power is with the people.
