Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

Dang! Upgraded from s22 to s24 plus and seeing how washed out S24 plus screen looks like, I feel like I down graded to an older version! Samsung fix this ASAP!!

less saturated, yes.. washed out, not really.

Brightness at 50%, extra brightness on + high contrast. I find that extra brightness on, helps a lot.

Please keep in mind that these are pictures that I captured with another phone. Looks better in person.

If Samsung wants to change the displays to be more "natural", that is their prerogative.  As a consumer I can choose to use or not use the S24 series phones (which I have chosen to return the S24 Ultra due to how the display looks).

However, my real problem is with Samsung management (or perhaps mismanagement).   It has been over 2 weeks since complaints about the displays began. If changes are truly going to be implemented in response to our complaints, Samsung should make a public statement on the issue.

However, It has crossed my mind that they may be lying low until the return period expires.  Do I know anything - No.  But after the Samsung Refrigerator debacles that Samsung did their very best to avoid correcting (google - Samsung Refrigerator lawsuit) - I will not be surprised if they are just staying quiet to keep as many phones from being returned as possible.

Do I hope they make changes to allow for a more vibrant display - yes.  Do I believe it?  Not until I see it.

You're spot on. 👍

By now Samsung should have released a statement. There are thousands of people waiting for a official reply.

All the phones in the s24 series are affected by this. They shouldn't have left the factory  until they were working as advertised...

Did Samsung advertise something as it relates to the color profile they tuned it to or vividness at the Unpacked event? Or did they advertise the same colors as the S23 or previous models?

All I remember seeing was about the new Corning glass and 2600 nits.

Did I miss it?

If he want to keep the natural mode, it must be more accurate with accurate color saturation and not lose color saturation as it is now

Vivid mode is still different and slightly more saturated, but it is less accurate in brightness and color tone

This guy is repeating what Ice Universe wrote on his Twitter account.

He isn't a Samsung official.

If it was true, Samsung would have put out a statement...

Lol you must not know Samsung, they don't communicate even if there was a fix coming.

I know it's impossible to contact anyone who might be able to help customers with after sale issues.

When you ring customer service, you get someone who you can't understand what they are saying. They don't know anything anyway...

I thought seeing this is a problem that thousands of people are commenting on.

Samsung would reply even if they aren't going to admit they sent faulty phones out...
