Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24well I just got my s24 ultra update from Samsung and it looks so much better I have the vivid option set for the middle button.. everything looks great now... However they did not add the brightness slider back to the always-on display for some reason... They really need to do that, hopefully next update...

Galaxy S24Same here, in the US and am on Mint/T-Mobile. In fact, just checked for updates after this post (having just checked an hour before) and sure enough, the update showed up. Installed it, put it on full vivid mode after trying the mid position, and yes it's helping some. Still the white in the app icons on the home screen look a bit weird to me compared to my s22+ (this is s24+) but it is better than their botched initial vivid mode. I'll take it.

Galaxy S24- Just got the update. Very interesting that they took away the picture of the fruits and berries. That's the picture that I used for comparison. It's now gone. They replaced the second and third pictures. The pinwheel is still there. Yes the slider is there. It's still not like the Vivid setting from all the other versions of galaxies before this year.

Galaxy S24So I got my update today from T-Mobile, and unfortunately, it's the corning glass and what looks like a partial implementation of increased saturation. Regarding the glass, it's like a thin layer of ultrafine haze, as the screen never really looked sharp around the edges and it just looks slightly blurry no matter what resolution you choose, it's like you know it has these great specs and expect a tack sharp display, but what you actually see is something slightly off focus and you're trying to reconcile the difference in your head, but you know it's BS, it's the anti-reflective process Corning did. In addition, while the color is definitely more saturated in most areas, it's weirdly not in others and the glass doesn't show it as glossy as it did...it's not as bad as the typical Dell Ultrasharp Monitor AG coating, but just enough to be a meh display thanks to Corning...if they could have just used the S20 Ultra display, it would have been perfect. Anyways, thanks Samsung for listening and providing this update, but this should never have been an issue from the start, and I'm really not happy with the anti-reflective display, it's like using a condom when also using birth control with your spouse, there's no point to it. If people wanted that, they could just buy screen protector for that separately, now we are all stuck with it.
