Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

Galaxy S24Since the grainy screen threads get deleted elsewhere, I will leave this here: Here is my S23U vs my S24U watching the same scene from The Bat-Man on YouTube, same brightness, post update, etc. The S23U on the top was clear. The S24U on the bottom was a grainy mess. It looked even worse in person than I could capture on video. Samsung needs to acknowledge this and fix it!

Galaxy S24I´m not shure about this. I´ve booted the S24 Ultra into the Boot-Option Menue and for me the displayed text looks perfectly sharp. Also the boot logo looks fine for me.
I´m very disapointed. I´ve returned my preordered S24 Ultra and got an replacement because the i´ve had the hardware camera issue (buggy zoom and bad quality). Since 2 days the replacement device is here and now i´ve noticed the grainy screen.
Overall not what i would suspect for a phone this price...

Galaxy S24Same here but others problems on my S24 ultra.
I get 2 S24 ultra during preorder , the 2 were defectives : one has a scratch on panel surface and titanium border, the second a dust in the main lens !
Then I have received my replacement device, just open the box : see long scratches on titanium borders !
I think S24 Ultra is a joke ? No QC at all ! When I will get a perfect phone for this price ? Never...
The displays on the 2 have banding and bad viewing angles...

Galaxy S24Why did you close the topic I opened? The problem I reported was related to the grainy screen. When I click on the link of the my topic, it transfers to this solved topic. But this grainy problem is not solved. Resolved dull screen issue.

Galaxy S24At first I thought my s24U's display escaped from all the grainy and banding issues.
Then recently , I was using the dedicated email app on dark mode at night, and lo and behold, I could see so much grain and like the screen has a layer over it.
Utterly disappointing because I thought only the screen feeling washed out was an issue( I was happy that it feels fixed in the latest update).
Samsung should really comment on this. Paying such high premiums on phones , only to find someone many issues on their flagships!
They can't and shouldn't keep quiet and should atleast release a statement addressing the countless concerns users are facing.
I don't think I'll stay with samsung if this is how things are going to be and if the company doesn't address their customers concerns.
Ps, I'm a loyal samsung user, had the S10+, note 9, note 5 and s3. Imo, S10+ was the best phone made.
