S24 Display Quality & AOD Missing Options

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

I initially had the dull screen display and i know how frustrating it can be.
The very first few hours it was great then all of the sudden boom it was dull was there was nothing i could do to fix it. I havent even fully transfered all my items from the s23 yet. So i fooled around and fooled around with it and to no avail. That's when I'm went to the chat rooms and sure enough this happened to so many people in the first day it was released, they were forced to put out this blanket statement stating they are aware of the problem and are working on it. They also said that they should be able to fix it with a simple software update. Which gave me hope. I was racking my brain thinking of what i did. I know the display works, cause i've already seen the beautiful colors So I knew it must be a setting or something.

Well samsung put out a quick fix. In the form of a software update. And my phone was set to update automatically (a setting i despise btw) because when i got up in the morning it was back to the regular full color display. And honestly it hasnt given me a bit of trouble since. I didnt know it continued to be for people after that day. So i definitly feel ya, being a die hard samsung fan all my tvs, computer monitors, cell phones, tablets , watch, everyhing is samsung so i would be **bleep** too!! You are totally right. thats the quickest way to get change, is hit them in the wallet. Hope things worked out for you.

I still have over a week in the return window so if I have not heard anything by Sunday I will start the return.  However it's not looking hopeful at this stage.

Start to return asap to ensure you get your label. Samsung is about to be absolutely flooded with returns.

i'll be honest with you it' give a bit of hopes but the main problem still the fact some moderator/rep say its intended others rep also say there's a fix for sure that's the worst **bleep**g communication i ever come across to date. hope samsung fix this hot mess soon cause a lot of us that can at least return for full refund at samsung will happen shortly. for me i may be doomed since i pre-ordered with my carrier and that will may endup to be a fight. wich i don't want to go through. cross fingers. 🙄
