Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Mine does not either, but that photo is exactly what my S23 Ultra had.

The S24 does NOT have a brightness control for the AOD!

Samsung said, that AOD was changed (to copy iPhone 14s AOD) and have cleaner transitions.. However, why are you teasing me on Lockstar, letting me customize MY AOD independently from my lockscreen, like it's always been.. I need my calendar back on my AOD! it's been 3 updates, and have yet to be able to do this.. Yet, you also allow this messy array of notifications to appear on my AOD. šŸ˜‚ I am so confused as to what the reality is!

Just bought the S24 ULTRA 3 days ago and am extremely disappointed with the dull display. The colours of the display look extremely lifeless. I just upgraded from my S21 ULTRA which has a fantastic display. Please provide a firmware update to fix this issues ASAP as Samsung's displays is one of its strength. S24 ULTRA is an extremely expensive phone and should not have this issue. Thanks and please action immediately.

I agree with everyone on this thread. I just upgraded to an S24 from my S20 and am very disappointed.  The colors are dull no matter what setting you pick. You say it's a more comfortable viewing experience yet no one likes it so what good is it? Why not give the user the option to choose what viewing experience they want in the settings. I feel like I just wasted a thousand bucks and should've just kept my S20. Is the phone just not capable of producing more vivid colors or is is something that they can patch? Please give me some kind of hope that they are going to correct this mistake eventually.

So count me in on the dimmed screen issue bandwagon.
Would like to add I noticed when I pull down the notification bar from up top, the screen gets bright but when i go back to the main screen it returns to the dimmed screen. It feels like there's a software bug not letting the brightness work properly. I contacted Samsung and this was their response:

"I'm back so sorry about earlier so it seems that our development team are collecting the complaints about the dim display and once our dedicated team is able to confirm this issue. They will notify you via software update that will fix the issue. as of the moment we don't have a time frame yet but rest assured that it should be sooner or later. since we don't want this to affect your experience with the new phone."

At least we know they know there's an issue and they are working on a fix.

This is such a huge flaw in these devices... Yet they are still sitting there gathering information before they decide what to do? You would expect them to be on it immediately making sure they release a patch ASAP before they get thousands of returns.

I thought I was the only one having a problem with the brightness. Everytime I pulled down to check my notifications, iy would be super bright, then get dark when I swiped it back up. And my adaptive brightness was turning on by itself. I'm like yea this gotta be a bug.
