Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

I'm so sorry to hear that.. did you reset all other option on display settings *if you bothered to try fixing the problem maybe you changed colors from vivid to natural or white tones, maybe you can try to reset settings and adjustments. Like this

A software update is expected to fix most issues the S24 Series is facing. Launch devices aren't very stable, not all is perfect

Tech support just told me the developers have decided there's no issue with the screen, therefore they will NOT be releasing any kind off update to the software.

Like every new product, we create them to upgrade them in better ways, to listen and hear all our wishes and critics.

This is definitely a software bug. The workaround I have is to select vivid and change the color temp all the way to right..towards warm. It fixes the contrast and color. However, as soon as eye comfort kicks in, it goes back to being dull and washed out. I suggest people try out that option and not enable eye comfort mode. Didn't expect this from Samsung. Whole world sees it right away and their QA didn't see this at all.

I was just told by Tech support that they will NOT be issuing a software update because the phones are as designed.

It's sad that I've ordered the most expensive 1 TB version of the phone and going through these types of problems and samsung has yet to address the issue. Is this what happens when they release a phone earlier than usual? I'd much prefer them to stic to there february release and make sure it's right. I understand some minor bugs usually happen at release but to this extent that it really annoys me just looking at the screen. It makes me want to go back to my s22 ultra which looks sooo much better at this moment. Thinking of returning the phone and staying with the s24 ultra if not resolved very soon

Did you send an error report in Samsung members app to report the issue?

No, I have not. I will try to do that now. Never have had to do this before.

Yeah it's easy to do. I sent mine a few days ago and they said they are investigating the issue and will get back to me later.
