I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š
Funny I didn't get a script when I told them of the issue with the colors of the display. The rep was like so you want to return it? I figured they heard so much complaints but the reps can't do much anyways but either read the script or ask if you want to return it.
I'm going to stick it out to see if a software update will actually fix the problem.. because I'm really loving the new form factor on the Galaxy + version. If not, I'm sure if they get enough complaimts maybe a recall will be issued out.
Whoa! So impressive that your S10 lasted so long! I just upgraded from an S20+ and am feeling meh about the S24+. It's just small things like the phone is so boxy (I loved the sleek S20+), we don't have the freedom to personalize the AOD, the Gallery edit program doesn't let me add Portrait Effect to photos I've already taken (this was a gamechanger!!), and in order to use the Enter Pin Without Pressing OK, your pin has to be six numbers. OMG!!!
So it's been almost a week since I've had my S24U. As mentioned by me and many others, the display is garbage. The colors are washed out and nowhere near as vivid and saturated as we are used to as samsung users.
My question, is or has Samsung acknowledged this and is there a date or a plan for a fix? Myself and many others will be utilizing the return period if there's no fix. All of this hype and the display is worse than my S22U.
Early adopter syndrome. The device officially released yesterday. If they are going to release a patch for it, it will take a little while, as they likely wanted to get the device launched, before patched. I would assume they will be patching though, as a feature (Vivid Mode) appears to be broken with the current release, and they (large companies) usually correct things like that.
Takes little to no effort at all to just release a statement regarding the issue but Samsung would rather put their energy in deleting and obfuscations posts about it.
Nice try but nope. I am referring to thousand of legit complaints from angry customer being bait and switched only to have their concerns silenced by the Samsung Members team. But please, keep shilling for a company that cares only about your money.
