I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š
I received my phone 2 days ago and wasn't aware that it was a common issue. But I immediately noticed that the screen was both dull and less colorful than my S10 and my husband`s Note 9 and these are almost antique phones now!
I am not sure to be reassured or panicked that it`s a common issue...
if it`s not resolved quickly in the first week I will return the S24 Ultra and wait next year or switch to apple...
I honestly dont know why I'm trying to stick to Samsung anymore...
Why do you keep posting these articles with the same screenshot from a chat representative that doesn't know anything? Until Samsung as a company releases any info, nothing is happening.
The representatives have a script with answers provided by Samsung management. I chatted with 3 different representatives today and they gave the same answer. If this is not coming from Samsung then from who?
I understand that part. But if that is true, how come the representative in this community made the comments in this very post saying the colors are normal? That is also coming from Samsung according to your logic, right?
I think you are missing my initial point, which is that for Samsung, this is not an issue. They are starting to align on the same message: the display has been improved to show accurate colors. In other words, there is nothing to fix. They also fine-tuned the colors of the Fold 5 display a few months ago. This is the new norm for Samsung which some people do like. I prefer to have the option of a true vivid mode. BTW, the S24 Ultra display recently received a global rank as the best smartphone display. I don't see Samsung changing the Vivid mode back. With this in mind, we may proceed to return our S24 series if we don't like the display but I do believe this will be the new norm and eventually we will need to adjust to it or better yet, Samsung could add a new super vivid mode, ha!
Plenty of others have posted the complete opposite response from customer service. They are all over the place with their canned answers and still nothing official from Samsung. Classy.
