Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24I did put a screen protector on my S24U, no screen protector on my S23U
For the purposes of this test.
Both are set to 1440/60.
The S24u was much brighter in a dark room watching a 12k HDR video. Blacks were blacker whites were way brighter, no blooming at all.
Will the home screen be as punchy, no. Consuming content is much better on the S24U.
The moral of this story is to put a screen protector, and your viewing of content will be better.
With no screen protector, it is a little flatter.
I will trade that for actually being able to see this incredibly bright screen outdoors, where I take most of my pictures!
I then removed the screen protector!

Galaxy S24So you're saying that in some usage scenarios that no one is talking about here, it may not be all bad? Still doesn't address what 99% of people that come to this thread are complaining about.

Galaxy S24Agreed. It is one thing if colors are quite as pop-y, but quite another when the whites actually look grey in "vivid" mode. In the very least, the word "vivid" cannot be used for the current color profile. It is clear Samsung was/is trying to recondition us because some OCD engineer was ashamed of the classic vivid mode.

Galaxy S24Can you please link the "announcement" you're referring to where "a fix is coming"? So far I have not seen any OFFICIAL acknowledgement of the issue or that a fix is in the works...

Galaxy S24Please don't keep regurgitating "a fix is on its way" because I guarantee you will not be able to link to an official Samsung statement regarding this. So far, we've had a rep in Spain say the change was intentional and won't be addressed; a Facebook reply by a Samsung rep saying it will be fixed because "some" devices have a color repro issue (no, all S24's have it as far as I can tell); and some obscure source claiming "Samsung is on it!". None of this means anything.

Galaxy S24Exactly! Why bother having a "vivid" option when it's clearly not!! This is just plain UGLY!!!
