Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24He did phrase it in an odd way but if the new batch comes with a firmware update and a new vividness toggle, it's safe to assume the update will apply to all S24 devices.

Galaxy S24English isn't his first language as far as I know. He means new firmware update. No way they are gonna release new phones for this as obviously it's a software related fix.

Galaxy S24I do agree, that's what I thought too and he mentioned an update at the end so that's probably what he meant rather than a new batch.

Galaxy S24You are 100%. Just received my s24 ultra 1TB. Been transferring my data from my fold 4 and the brightness on the fold 4 is far better and more vivid.
Need to decide now if I'm better off just sending my s24 back and keep the fold 4

Galaxy S24In the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the current vivid mode is not as some people mention it is identical to the natural picture mode. Try opening the Display settings to change between vivid mode and Natural mode. Open the settings in splitting the screen and browsing the device content. Switch between the two modes. You will find a vivid mode that increases the saturation a little, but it is reduced in comparison Previously model
For me, I want a solution to saturate the Natural mode because I do not like the vivid mode
It seems that the solution to color saturation will be limited to vivid mode. I am not interested, but I will wait for the update to see what the setting does

Galaxy S24My son bought a s24 ultra and received it on the 29th January. After reading the thousands of comments about the washed out colours, he didn't open it. Waiting for Samsung to make a statement saying they would be fixing this problem.
It cost him $1900 AU with the discounts. I have called and emailed Samsung asking why they haven't addressed the problem.
The answers I received were no help. I was told the Australian Variant wasn't effected ?
Today my son couldn't wait any longer and opened it. Immediately it was so obvious the colours are washed out. My s9plus is brighter and looks better.
These phones should Never have left the factory in this condition.
Samsung are ignoring everyone. Obviously their after sales service is non existent...š”

Galaxy S24ā
Hello everyone, let's patiently wait and see if the new vividness slider is being introduced. If it is, we can then compare its appearance to that of other devices.
