Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Went from an S22 Ultra to this, and the screen colors sucks on this new phone, it has nothing to do with better viewing, it's purely a failure. Nothing changes on my display if I switch color schemes or adjust colors in Vivid Mode.....Samsung, this needs an update quickly or I will return my phone.

Thank God they're adding a vividness slider to the display settings. It has three notches the first is what it is now the second will be more vivid like the s23 Ultra and the third will be even more vivid like the s21 Ultra. It should come in the next update.

This is exciting news! Some who prefer the Natural mode look have become discontented with us who prefer a more vibrant look. Because in their eyes the phone is perfect as is and they don't like the criticism. But I think if Samsung did away with Natural mode they would be a bit more understanding. It's a matter of preference is all.

Finally, since Samsung's inception they were known for their bright and vivid displays by default. Natural mode option came much later. So those wanting the vivid mode functionality back are the Samsung purists.

I think Samsung is worried about burn-in with the saturated colors, especially on the AOD, show wallpaper !

I've heard this mentioned and I've read that in UI 5 Samsung introduced Pixel shifting to prevent this but I've also read that with UI 6 it may be malfunctioning. So yes, I guess that's feasible..

Having the AOD show wallpaper always on is a risky thing. I have it set to tap to show. You can also do AUTO. When in pocket or turned over, it will turn off!

That's not a reason for the vibrancy situation. Burn-in has nothing to do with color gamut and everything to do with brightness. The individual subpixels are still lighting up just as bright with this muted color. The brighter an LED is, the shorter it's lifespan before it begins to dim.

All that said, I rocked my S20 on very high brightness and the vibrancy cranked through the roof with no noticeable burn-in after three years. OLED displays have come a long way even in the past few years when it comes to burn in. I can't see it being a major issue under normal use.

Ridiculous! This very reliable leaker has been wrong alot also.
Since when does he work for samsung. Anyone can make a photo of how it should look.
That's 100 percent fake photo.
Wait till samsung gives an official statement.

Most likely nothing getting changed, this is the new look.
Everyone wanted to jump the gun and buy it. Now except it!

They're just trying to make people hold their phones until the return period expires.
