Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Just received my s24 plus and the screen is grainy and colors are washed out in appearance. Not happy and will return phone.

Have any of you noticed that on the s24 plus the colors are not that bold. For example a blue color looks light or too soft. I mean it doesn't hurt the eyes but still would like to know that a blue is blue and not lightish. I have tried playing w the settings but still can't replicate bold colors. Any tips anyone? Also, is the hard press home button removed? That is how I would turn my phone on by pressing hard on the home button from the lock screen. Now I have to double tap to turn the screen on.

Yes this is a known issue with the software controlling the color saturation. From what I've seen, samsung is working on a fix for it. I'm having the same issue with my s24 ultra and when adjusting the display from natural to vivid, there is no change.

Yes. There is even a video on YouTube already about this and multiple post here about the same topic. Basically the color saturation looks muted. Changing the screen setting from Natural to Vivid seems to barely do anything. Hopefully it's just a software update fix within the next 30 days, If not, ill be returning mine which I Just finished setting up.

The phone launches launches on the 31st. So I'm hoping around that time we can get some fixes.

OH man people. Go into the display settings. Turn off adaptive color tone. Your color is now what you expect.

It is not a defect. It is a copy of Apple's true tone. If you like saturated colors with all the blue just turn it off. Adaptive color tone.

I wish you people would stop saying this adaptive color tone is a fix. It has nothing to do with that. It's literally a software issue and Samsung is already aware and are working on a fix. Go to your screen mode in display settings and change it from natural to vivid. On the S24 line up it does nothing where as on all other line ups vivid would make everything pop and be sharp. Vivid mode is broken across the entire S24 line up and only a patch would fix it.

I happened upon the explanation of why those who think the Screen on the S24u appears dim to some. It is a software issue, my understanding of the situation is Samsung leftout the code for Vivid Mode.
Will they fix it, I don't know.
