Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

My regular S24 also has terrible screen calibration and a malfunctioning Vivid mode. I went for a deal with a trade in of my S22, but I haven't seen any official statement from Samsung anywhere. Has anyone got an appropriate statement of response from Samsung, stating that the Vivid mode is broken, the screens are incorrectly calibrated and that this is purely a software issue which they will fix? I am anxious to return my S22 and that I need to stick with an S24 with a terrible screen. I'm considering to return the S24 now because I don't want to take the risk.

I was just told they are NOT planning on fixing the washed out screen because it's how they designed it to look.

What a joke. Went to the Verizon store checked all three models of the S24. They all had the same problem : The toggle to vivid display was not working at all. I compared it to other galaxy phones specifically the galaxy flip and there was a huge difference in the two screen modes. Samsung should be ashamed of themselves for putting out a new phone with that sort of bug.

Tech support does not dictate if a fix is coming. They would be one of the last people to know at Samsung.....

Yesterday I got S24 Ultra via At&t.

I can confirm my previous S21 Ultra has better and rich colors.

Just wondering if I should return new one. If unlocked version will get update within a month, probably At&t will take 6 months.

I feel like I have gone backward in phone technology with this new s24 ultra, the colors are washed out and dull and the sound is not as good also.  listening through the phone speakers is not as clear and powerful as on the S22.  I would like to hear something from Samsung about this or I am going to return this and use my old phone.

Yes, the entire S24 line up is affected by this. I have the S24 plus and have the same issue. It's a software issue where the vivid screen mode doesn't work at all and everything is stuck in the natural mode which has the more natural and dull colors. Apparently Samsung is already working on a patch for this as a lot of people have been complaining but no idea when they'll actually release it.
