Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24I returned my first S24+ and canceled the order for a second. Was thinking about getting the S23+ but a little concerned about future updates. Since some are saying the screen natural look on the S24 models is intentional, will they do the same for previous Galaxy models. Sadly, I would end up paying about $500 more to get the S23+ then what I originally paid for the S24+ through the preorder deals. Also looking at the Goggle Pixel 8 Pro. Any suggestions? I read on a couple sites that Samsung said the S24 is the most popular smartphone yet with record sales. That's fine. They're also going to break a record with the most returns.

Galaxy S24I had the Pixel 8 Pro side by side with S23+ for an extended time during the holidays.
Returned the Pixel because everything other than better point and shoot camera results did not impress me.
- Mobile and wifi reception, app and web browsing responsiveness/throughput not as snappy
- Got warm after extended periods of use (not as bad as Pixel 6 and 7 but still too much imo)
- I encountered some sluggish performance/slow refresh in some apps and also when web browsing (with Duckduckgo)
- Battery runtime isn't as good and charging is too slow
The few Samsung apps I use are really a cut above (Secure Folder, Expert RAW camera, integration with Adobe Lightroom, a few of the Good Lock modules, etc.

Galaxy S24Verizon has released the first firmware update for the Galaxy S24 series. Has anybody installed it? Looking to see if the vivid display issue has been addressed with this update

Galaxy S24If you're talking about the build ending in AWM9 that's the build we already have, not sure why they're considering it new.... My phones came with this build and they all have washed out colors in vivid mode.
Is this the article you saw? Fake news...

Galaxy S24This is clearly a software issue that can be resolve with future updates I don't get why everyone here is overreacting. The phone just released and while I'm lowkey **bleep** Samsung hasn't fixed it yet this is nowhere near big enough of an issue to return the phone. Chill..
