Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

I have a friend who works for samsung. There not changing that natural look. You can take it for what it is, but he's a big shot in the company. But who knows things could change. I know he said there's been alot of returns with the phone, but sales are still doing great.

I went to best buy today just to compare my s24 with their display ones, and those don't seem to have the dull display issue. I made sure that all the settings were the same including background and brightness, but the phones in store look great! Same build version etc. as well. The vivid/neutral option also had noticable difference. I don't understand why some of the customer representatives believe that there's no issue and it's "intended" when there's clearly an issue.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Samsung has said they intentionally made the screen more natural looking.

I know someone who works for samsung. Told me no update coming. This is it, get used to it.
They went for this look because of all the ai features that are coming.
That's all I know , but believe what you want to. He said sales are
great, but also alot of phones also being returned.
Best buy can make anything look great in store, so don't go by that.

When you go to store and display shows a real difference between Vivid and Natural, please look at build. Mine is AWM9 with drab colors. See if the phone at store has different build. I think all of us with drab colors have the AWM9 build.

Samsung, customers are devastated. Please, make a statement one way or another whether an update is coming to restore vivid mode.
Don't be offended by all of the negative feedback you have been receiving across many forums.
Rather, take it as a compliment. It shows how much your customers care and have grown to love your phones.
Samsung be vibrant and exciting again. Offer "your" customers the choice. And don't let us wait forever.
The last paragraph of the statement released by Samsung Spain; To offer our customers the best possible experience, we value your feedback and continually improve our software (UX) as the market and consumer interests evolve.

"Your loyal" customers want to know, can it be done and will you do it.
