Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Ice Universe is behind most of the leaks we get regarding Samsung phones months ahead of their release and they're very accurate. The way he phrased the whole tweet is definitely an info, not a guess. He wouldn't come up with all these details if it wasn't coming from Samsung. This is a 95% reliable news for me.

Don't you think that if Samsung has released an official statement it would be pinned across social media for everyone to read? Seeing there are thousands of people waiting on a response...

Did you return your phone?

Too bad you returned your phone. Ice Universe is one of the most, if not the most accurate leakers, especially when it comes to Samsung phones. I can't wait to enjoy the Vividness slider!

I would pay to see the faces of all the people that returned their phones and lost the pre-order deals.

Why would you pay to see that? Really? They have a legitimate issue with this phone. Samsung is not only playing tone deaf, they said this was it and the usual corporate spiel that we listen. Listening is passive, replying is active response paying customers are concerned about, not leaks, but actual replies saying we hear you, an update to resolve is coming in the next release. If you have nothing to contribute other than a snarky reply, please find another website to enjoy paying for what you see.

I'm sorry if my comment somehow offended you. I guess I need to go to another website because freedom of speech isn't welcomed here?

Back to the topic at hand, how do you or anyone else here know for sure that it's an "issue"? What if that's the color profile they were going for? If a speaker company changes their sound profile from bright to dark, is that an "issue" or simply a choice by the company? I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but TV and speaker companies often tweak their products from time to time.

For example, I've had every single Samsung device since the S2. I've noticed from the S21 to S22 to S23, the color saturation has been less and less. It seems to be a direction the company has been going. Does that mean it's right or wrong? It definitely depends who you ask.

With all of that being said, am I gonna welcome a vividness slider? Heck yeah! I always believe choice is good.

At the same time, the tech nerd side of me thinks some people overreacted. Simply because updates are a big part of tech and this phone hasn't even had a single one yet.

And look, I get that nobody wanted to get stuck with a phone that they didn't enjoy after their return window closed. But to me personally, it wasn't worth losing the pre-order deals.

Worst case scenario, you could easily sell the phone for more than you paid for it if you did a trade-in if they weren't gonna fix the phone and you wanted to get rid of it.

This is just all my opinion, sorry if you don't agree with it.

Even better solution, being able to adjust the saturation.

Hopefully it's true !!!

ICE Universe is behind a lot of accurate leaks regarding Galaxy phones ahead of their release so I don't think he could get a firmware update documented with a picture wrong. The way he phrased his tweet is definitely making me very confident. He says it's now safe to buy the S24 series with that update coming.

He phrased it a little strange.."the next version of S24 series".. as in, new batch of phones or new firmware?
