Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

It's too hard to see on my S24 Ultra. Even Flossy Carter mention it needs to be bought back.

How do I brighten my AOD? When I receive notifications, they are showing up very dim. Anyone else dealing with this or have a solution?

Thanks

On Samsung Galaxy devices, including those with Always On Display (AOD) features, the brightness of the AOD can be adjusted through the settings. Here's how you can brighten your Always On Display:

1. **Access Display Settings:**
- Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy device.

2. **Navigate to Display Settings:**
- Scroll down and select "Display."

3. **Select Always On Display:**
- Look for an option called "Always On Display" or simply "AOD."

4. **Adjust Brightness:**
- Within the Always On Display settings, you should find an option to adjust the brightness or visibility of the AOD.

Note: The specific location of this setting may vary slightly depending on the model and software version of your Samsung Galaxy device.

5. **Brightness Level:**
- Adjust the brightness level to your preference. You may see a slider or different brightness options.

6. **Apply Changes:**
- After adjusting the brightness, make sure to apply the changes or save the settings.

Keep in mind that increasing the brightness of the Always On Display may impact battery life, as a brighter display consumes more power. If you're experiencing issues with notifications appearing dim even after adjusting the AOD brightness, consider checking the following:

- **Power Saving Mode:** If your device is in Power Saving Mode, it might automatically reduce the brightness of the AOD to conserve battery. Disable Power Saving Mode to see if it resolves the issue.

- **Auto Brightness:** Ensure that the Auto Brightness feature is turned off if you prefer manual control over the display brightness.

If the issue persists, and you are unable to achieve the desired brightness for your Always On Display, it's recommended to check for software updates on your device. Sometimes, manufacturers release updates that address display-related issues and improve overall performance. Additionally, reaching out to Samsung support may provide specific guidance based on your device model and software version.

not entirely sure where you copied and pasted this from, but it's wholly inaccurate when it comes to the S24, AOD, and One UI 6.1.

settings > lock screen and AOD > AOD > and you'll see that there is no separate brightness control anywhere.

makes sense. I am looking forward to a brighter future, though, with our new AI overlords....once they get it figured out. 🙄

Thank you I figured that. It's just weird that when I watch YouTube reviews their AOD is showing very bright🤔
