Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Yes, at first I I thought I had a faulty phone but read many of the same complaints. Don't know if the anti-glare glass had anything to do with it. I'm just so used to Samsung displays being so punchy and vibrant even without vivid mode turned off(which I don't use)

Make sure adaptive color tone is turned off, you will then get the slider to set Vividness!

I do have the adaptive color tone turned off. The sliders that set vividness doesn't change anything from what I am observing. Honestly it's a bit disappointing how the display of this phone looks even worse than my cracked Motorola g7 supra.

Sorry to hear that you are not happy with the lack of vividness.

Might I also suggest on the RBG sliders, set Blue and Red to max, green move down 4 notches.
See if that helps

It is also helpful to put a tempered glass screen protector on.

I have already messed with the rgb sliders but they don't seem to do much either. I already have a tempered glass screen protector on. I also changed the contrast in the developer options. Even with all of this, the display still looks noticeably worse. Do you know why they haven't just done vividness like how they did on the galaxy s23?

I guess most people use natural mode, which I do.
I love this screen

I just installed the latest Lockstar update. However, after installing the update, I noticed that the always-on display editing functionality had been removed from my S24 Ultra. It appears that the latest version, v6.1.0.11, was not properly rolled out. The new LockStar version is v6.1.00.11, which was not initially ruled out correctly by the Play Store. To get this function back, we need this: The following functions require an update to AOD version v8.7.99.11 or later and are not available on devices supporting "Full-Screen AOD" (e.g., s24) 1) Edit AOD function 2) AOD manual brightness option. My question is, how do I update AOD to the latest version and the LockStar? I need an APK for each one, but where do I get it from? Any tips???
