Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

More updates to correct something that's supposed to be fine the day you buy it is unacceptable. This is a premium expensive device being made every single year. It's like a Ferrari that can't go pass 50 mph and waiting for an update. I'm really bummed and I love Samsung. I wonder what's an alternative now.

Maybe they do want to go full Natural but had to update this just a tad to not make it so extreme all of the sudden due to complaints

I agree 100 percent. I also love samsung and I'm really surprised with this 24 series. I still have my s23 ultra and the way it looks right now, I think I will wait for the 25 series. But I will see what happens in the next few weeks too make my decision.
But you made the perfect example in your post.

They've been actively removing posts related to the grainy display lately. Let's see how long this post lasts. I'll return my S24U to the seller because of this issue. Disappointing response by Samsung. I understand that mistakes happen, but it's not okay to brush the issue under the rug by deleting posts.

I've noticed that too. I hope they correct this problem, but after this latest update I'm not feeling that positive now. But I understand your frustration. I'm very disappointed also with samsung.

I got grainy issues also but lucky it's only happens below 5 percent ,usually I don't use my device this low. Unfortunately when I use to have the tab s8 ultra I had my tablet replaced all 3 times and they all had a issue with the display with grainny issue that were much noticeable then the s24 it would grain at about 20 percent dim, I gave up after the 3rd time ,bc i was basically unable to use the tablet for almost 2momths bc i kept having to send it in. i replaced it with the s9 ultra when it came out which fortunately solved the issue. So Quality control has always been an issue with samsung Unfortunately.

Yes I agree with you! The vividiness update patch S926U1UEU1AXB7 honestly just exacerbated the issue. They aren't fixing it probably because they can't. The screen itself is the issue and this phone probably is just going to be forgotten. They should offer people discounts or trade in for s23. And hopefully address the shortcomings in a s25 release. Samsung has a history of not listening to their user base. At this point I look at the whole iphone vs samsung the lesser of two evils. šŸ™ƒ
