Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Yeah, the washed out screen is a problem. A couple phones ago, Night Photography was abysmal because the software that made it better was not ready at launch time. Just remember, it has been worse!

Just sent this "error report" to Samsung. Everyone, please continue to alert them! I seriously hope these issues get fixed. When I first opened my new phone I instantly noticed this. Please comment down below if anyone else has heard back from Samsung.

"To whom it may concern:

I just received my Samsung S24 Ultra, and the screen display is terrible! I am extremely disappointed. I have been a loyal Samsung customer for years. The screen display is incredibly muted and DULL, which is unacceptable for the most expensive phone Samsung has to offer in this series. I have the S24 Ultra with 1TB, it is absurd to be experiencing these issues. It is also very noticeable that the "Vivid" and "Natural" option for display are not working. They are exactly the same! My phone also has a very evident GREEN tint that I cannot get rid off or fix.

Where is the vibrancy?! With the specs being a Dynamic AMOLED, the colors are supposed to be even more vibrant. My Galaxy S9+ that I was about to trade is has a much clearer and more vibrant display/screen resolution. Is this a software glitch? Please, I would like answers because I am about to return this phone if I do not receive them. Truly unacceptable and everyone else is also experiencing this."

I am having the exact same issue
There's definitely a problem but nothing I've read can pinpoint it and it seems like multiple things are happening at once. The screen takes on a greenish tint when tilted to the side, The vivid mode setting barely changes the colors at all, all grays and whites have a slight grain to them, blacks look less inky almost as if they are an lcd screen, and at least on the homescreen and ui everything is ever so slightly blurry, there's a distinct sharpness to everything on my s20 fe. On the s24 ultra many details of things are overly softened and blend together

I've messed around with a variety of settings on my phone. Thee "screen mode" and " all of the "white balance" settings do not work. It's almost as if there is an error/malfunction with the screen calibration for our phones. Not in the sense of "screen sensitivity" but for hues, vibrancy, contrast, etc. How on earth did Samsung miss these issues during their trials, tests, etc? Unreal.

Ditto. My girlfriend and I feel the same. Display so disappointing compared to our S21 ultra phones. We were so looking forward to our new S24 ultra phones. Really put a damper on our day.

I know! We're you guys going to trade in your phones? This is the 1st time I was ever going to do a trade-in (Galaxy S9+), and we only have 15 days to do it. I seriously hope they (1) are willing to fix these issues, (2) can fix them, and (3) can fix them without us sending our phones back. That would be a disaster with a lot of the credits people received, trade-ins, returns, etc. Not to mention the backlog of orders they are already starting to have.

I don't know the return process, so we will need to read the paperwork and/or contact them. Sounds like people are saying we have 14 days to return.

I just received my yesterday. I'll still have a little time. Let's see when most of the public buy theirs on the 31st. Still not a lot of time though.

I agree. It will be good to hear Samsung's response as well.
