Samsung m8 MacBook sound

I just got the Samsung m8 monitor and I hooked up my MacBook to it via hdmi and usb c and it works well but the sound is not translating. The sound is still coming from the Mac even when its closed.

@platypuscoder On the Mac, have you selected the M8 as the sound output device? 

System settings -> Sound -> Output
