If you're considering buying a new Frame TV and use an external HDMI device (Xbox, Playstation, Apple TV, Nintendo Switch, Chromecast, etc...) the TV will not work correctly with them. Be warned.

Firmware 1520 update has broken CEC for Samsung Frame 2022 models (and possibly more). This means that Frame TVs returning to Art mode after using a device is functionally broken.

Devices that should be powering off the TV via CEC are no longer recognized by the Samsung TV, there are multiple threads about this but they tend to specifically mention devices (Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, etc...).

The common denominator here is that ALL CEC power off events for ALL devices are now broken with the latest firmware update, they used to function correctly before this update.

If you hard power cycle the TV, the very first CEC power off event will work correctly, but then it never functions correctly again. Instead of powering the TV down or returning to Art Mode (whichever you have configured) the TV now sits in "Check device power" screen. This effectively breaks the entire functionality and purpose of having a Frame TV...which is that it returns to Art mode after you're done with whatever you're doing.

Samsung techs are blaming Microsoft, Apple, Google, Nintendo, and Sony and telling people to call their tech support. The common denominator here is Samsung, not every other device manufacturer.

The latest firmware update has broken Samsung Frame TVs, and there is no way to downgrade firmware. We all just get to wait while Samsung is blaming everyone else and not working on a fix. The tech that I spoke to was super nice, but told me that "my scenario is very uncommon" and that their firmware is not broken. This is objectively not true. This firmware update is broken. Please fix it, please let me downgrade.

In the meantime, hopefully your device supports power-down and volume controls via IR. This isn't a long term solution though. Samsung needs to acknowledge this and roll back or hotfix whatever change broke this.

Jumping on here to announce that this wretched firmware update has also wrecked my 75" Frame. Extremely frustrated!

Adding to the list of annoyed users of The Frame. The picture quality isn't great compared to other TVs at the price point, but the Art Mode is what made it an easy sell. Please, fix Art Mode.

If you want to keep users in the Samsung ecosphere, you shouldn't have included HDMI ports.

It's not fair, I paid a large amount of money (to me) - Please, Samsung, please fix this.

Time to consider a class action lawsuit.
Samsung fix our TV’s.

Class action lawsuit?  Leaving this message everywhere 1520 messes the CEC off for all HDMI; even for their own sound bars.

I used to work in I.T for an American Consumer company and the brand reputation was one of the most important things, as this issue with the firmware of this product is being noticed and recorded by Samsung customers across the world, even on Samsung communities, how can there not be any official response from Samsung on this major firmware flaw??? This is crazy, even a simple communication acknowledging the issue and an approximate ETA of when it would be rectified would do wonders for their customers. I’ve always bought another major competitor brand in TVs as I know them to be robust & reliable, but this time around when I purchased the Frame, I let ‘feature’ over function take priority. Lesson learnt, I will NOT be buying anything Samsung again as the way this has been handled is ridiculous. When I logged this issue through Samsung Support locally in Australia, the result was ‘call Apple as they might have a solution’, even after I questioned that the issue specifically occurred after ‘auto’ updating to 1520.

Hi. I just recently purchased my first Frame Tv and am trying to troubleshoot a lot of the same issues. Noob question about Firmware. In Settings > Support > Software Update > Auto  my current version is 1403. So is that 'software version' actually the firmware?

@Slapppy  mentioned "old 14xx firmware" and needing to "swap the board".  Does that mean my TV has old circuitry?

I'm trying to prevent the "home screen takeover which automatically open itself randomly".  The comments here suggest 15xx firmware hasn't fixed that issue.

No, you have the same hardware as all of us. Firmware is technically software that is loaded onto the chips and controls the hardware. Disable auto update immediately or your TV will auto download the new firmware update and break like everyone else on here. There is nothing to gain from allowing Samsung to update firmware on your television if it is already working in an acceptable manner to you. Samsung has proven that updates are risky and this setting should be disabled.

Update messed up my TV situation also.  now apple TV won't put TV into art mode.  Worked great for 2 years, now this.

I am also having this issue with firmware 1520 and an AppleTV 4k. This frame TV is a recent purchase, which I am regretting.
