Can't add Hotmail account to contacts

Although it works perfectly well on my Samsung phone, on my Samsung tablet, when I try to add my Hotmail account - which is where all of my contacts are stored - - to the Samsung contacts app, it says it is already connected. However, it is not connected. Because it is not listed under the accounts that are connected. And none of my contacts show up. The only accounts that it seems to allow me to connect our Gmail accounts. But my contacts are not under Gmail. My tablet is in Galaxy S8.

Again, it works fine in my Samsung phone.

You cannot add it from the seetings>accounts and backup? Adding it as a contact to another account may not allow for contact sync.

The account is listed under settings/accounts but it says "sync turned off for all" even though autosync is is turned on.

You can manually turn the contact sync or all the options to force the sync. It's better to connect to WiFi for reliability.

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying.

You don't have to turn on all options to sync just contacts. Also, connecting to WiFi before you sync makes it easier for your contacts to be downloaded to the phone.

It's been a long, long time since I've thought about Hotmail but are the Hotmail contacts the same as the Outlook.Com contacts since Outlook.Com is hosting the Hotmail domain?

What options? Where are these options you are telling me about? Could you please explain clearly and completely what you are advising me to do? Everyday I get a new cryptic, unclear message from you but I simply do not understand what you are advising me to do.

And my phone is always connected to Wi-Fi.
