Hello -

I have 3 APs in my house, one on each floor. One AP in the room where I work most often is Wifi 6e / 6Ghz capable. For some reason Fold 5 will only connect to 6GHz in this room if I toggle wifi off and back on on the phone or reboot it while on the room. If I walk out of the room and back in the room, it will only connect to 5GHz even though 6GHz provides better speed, less latency, and less interference.

I have a Pixel 6A that will roam to 6GHz just fine and gets much faster speeds. This is frustrating considering the Pixel costs a fraction of the Fold 5.

Windows laptop, MacBook, and iPad all roam to 6GHz and get 3-4x faster wifi speeds than Fold 5 in the same spot which stays on 5Ghz and never roams to 6Ghz.

There appears to be no way to set my Fold 5 to prefer 6GHz. This appears to be a Samsung bug with the roaming algorithm. I see many others have similar complaints with Samsung Wifi and 6Ghz. How can we get a fix?

Hry dpt3 do you the screenshot setting turn on? if so turn it off on your FOLD and see it still does it, let me know if that helps... SmartSelect_20240425_211922_Settings_1000012268_1714094363.jpg

I have tried every setting I can find. I have tried with this setting both on and off and it doesn't seem to change the behavior. It is currently off and I am sitting about 10 feet from the access point. Pixel 6A is on 6GHz with link speed of 2100 Mbps. Fold 5 is missing a lot of detail and advanced settings that the Pixel and my laptops and tablets have and does not show link speed or frequency on the device at all. If I check my AP, it shows frequency of 5Ghz and link speed of 575Mbps for the Fold 5.

Everything else works on your FOLD 5, Everything is up to date? worst case do a factory reset.

I have done a factory reset also, no difference. Yes everything works fine. I just don't want to have to turn wifi off and back on every time I walk into this room to get better speed. Other devices are working fine. Doing some searches seems lots of folks are complaining about the wifi roaming and settings exposed on these devices VS. others. I'm hoping this is software that can be patched.

Many different Samsung devices have this issue.  It is unclear if it's a Samsung issue or the router OEM.

Make sure your router is updated to the latest firmware and if still an issue, send an error report to the Router OEM as well as Samsung

For Samsung, Reproduce the issue and then open the Samsung Members app, click on Support (Lower right)->Feedback->Send Error Report,  Remember to check on "Send System Data Log"

** If my response helps, please click on Like (Heart). If I resolved your issue also please click on Accept as a Solution so that others can benefit.

A router (gateway in my case) is used to pass ("route") data between disparate networks. Generally this means between a WAN (ISP) and LAN (internal network). Nothing about this problem has anything to do with a router service running on a gateway.

An AP (Access Point) is what handles WLAN associations. However, roaming decisions are solely determined by the MU (mobile unit) per the 802.11 standard for Wi-Fi. The Fold 5 wifi supplicant solely decides when to scan and initiate association requests and chooses not to do so. Other devices work perfectly fine on my Unifi access points and Fold 5 fails to roam optimally on other 6GHz networks like Meraki and Aruba. This is solely an issue with the Wi-Fi algorithm used by Samsung. There is a huge lack of settings and status in the OneUI wifi settings versus other Android, Windows, Mac, and iOS devices.

I followed the steps you outlined but when I try to click Send Error Report, it just pops up my Photos and asks me to choose one??

I have no idea what could cause that.  Boot to Safe Mode and try again.

Safe mode does not use a different roaming algorithm than regular mode. What causes it is the poor implementation of the wifi supplicant from Samsung. They are choosing not to scan or roam to faster 6GHz networks. Likely they just reused the 5GHz logic looking at RSSI only and not scanning or preferring faster 6GHz bands. The fact so much of the wifi statistics that are native on other devices are hidden in OneUI shows they didn't put much effort into Wi-Fi.
