Phone does not make any notification sounds

In the last 24 hours, my phone (Galaxy S21 5G) has stopped making notification sounds.  I get the notifications, and it vibrates briefly, but there are no sounds with the notification.  I've checked all the obvious things including: 

• Verified the phone is not on mute or vibrate, and the volume is up to max on Ringtone, Media, Notifications, and System
• Checked that there are no App settings that mute or lower the volume
• Do Not Disturb is not on
• Separate app sound is off
• I'm updated to the latest Android version (Software version = G991U1UES8EWG3)
• I've restarted the phone
• I've reset all the Settings to default
• I've cleared the cache and data for the app I need most (Opsgenie)
• The speakers on the phone work (media sounds play)

Another odd thing is that when I go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Notifications where you can select the sound, nothing plays when I select different sounds. It does work on Settings > Sounds and Vibrations > Ringtone.  I've restarted the phone in Safe Mode, and this behavior is unchanged.

When I go to Volume settings, and adjust the volume on the different types of sound, Ringtone and Media always play when the volume slider is adjusted.  Notifications will play once, if I change it's volume after Ringtone or Media, but then stop for all future adjustments until I adjust Ringtone or Media again.  System never makes any sound.

I'm specifically concerned about the app Opsgenie, since I need to hear on-call alerts for work, but none of the app notifications are making any sounds.

I've done all those steps, let TS run their remote program to no effect.
Factory reset, no change...
But get this...
I get notification sounds when playing a video, YouTube, movie etc... and nothing when video is closed.

Any updates? I just upgraded from an S9 into an S21 and I'm having this issue out of the gate. I'm a pretty die-hard Android guy, but I'm on the verge of actually going to an iPhone. This is ridiculous!

Did you figure it out? I just upgraded from a S8 yesterday and it's the same exact thing. No notification sounds, they don't play a test sound in the change options, but i do get a notification sound when playing a video.

Any new info on this issue? I also started experiencing this about a weed ago for no reason. Ringtone still works and when I place on charger.
Out of desperation, i thought maybe my bluetooth earbuds we still connected. Sure enough, when i turned off bluetooth, all my notification sounds worked. Turned bluetooth back on and sounds stopped. What in the world is this all about?? Though my earbuds are paired, they aren't connected.

Interesting. Turning Bluetooth on/off doesn't affect the behavior on mine

When BT is on and you have paired audio devices like earbuds, the sounds are likely routed there whether or not you're actually using them.... just a guess.  I can't remember the exact circumstances but in the past with both Android and iPhone I've had no sound and had to mess with the BT connection.

Also, you could try Settings->General management->Reset->Reset Network Connections which will also reset BT.

This worked for my Z Flip 5.  It's not ideal but it will work as a temporary fix.

So there is no way of fixing this? How is this still an issue!?!?!? I did an update yesterday and now I get no sound for my notifications.  I need to be able to hear them for work! I can't live watching it to see if I get a text.
