I am very sorry to hear you lost your photos and albums in Gallery after an update, and can understand the concern and frustration. Like @bill-e said, check your Gallery trash. You should also check any cloud-based services they may have been backed up to. One of the reasons I empty my phone of everything I don't want to lose before an update.
