Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

Tried to contact support over this problem and had great difficulty as I was unable to send a photograph comparing phones as I do not have any other camera. I explaing the problem and linked to the chat but they acted as if they had not heard of it and also would not do anything until I could send a comparison photo.  Its not filling me with any hope. The difference is painfully obvious to the eye but isnt capturing well on camera with my old phones.

There are plenty of articles on google about it. Many tech websites have posted about it. Just provide them with some links or screenshots of that. It is a well known topic, if this Samsung representative doesn't know about it then contact another one.

Wow, you really are letting Samsung off the hook here. "Just contact another one" that simple eh? The onus is not on us as the consumer to manage Samsungs response to issues regarding their devices.this has been terribly handled and makes consumers lose trust. Stop simping for a company that does not care about you.

To the engineers who may read this... Please add another option for the old color profile or change vivid back to what it used to be. The colors are extremely noticeable when switching from a tab S9+ to my s24 ultra it shouldn't be like this. The screen is capable of looking very close to the older displays. If you screenshot your home screen and edit it you can boost the Contrast slightly in the saturation a little more And it looks pretty close to my S22 ultra but not exactly. Please don't ignore your loyal customers that have bought countless Samsung devices over the years.

After thoughtful consideration, I've reevaluated the situation regarding my transition from the s21 Plus to the new s24 Plus. Despite having received the s24 Plus on January 29th, I've kept it unopened, anticipating resolution on this vivid screen display issue or an official statement from Samsung addressing the matter. Despite my eagerness to upgrade immediately upon receiving the phone, I've refrained from doing so due to these concerns.

Upon reflection, it seems the vivid display issue is exclusive to the Galaxy s24 series, all of which run on  OneUI 6.1. Notably, none of the previous S models, z-fold models, or flip models exhibit this problem, and they all operate on the 6.0 version, not 6.1. Consequently, I am inclined to believe that the issue lies with the 6.1 software and not inherent flaws in the s24 series phones.

Given Samsung's stature as one of the world's largest phone manufacturers, it seems unlikely that they would allow such a vivid screen defect to persist for an extended period. I am optimistic that they will release a software upgrade promptly to rectify the problem. Samsung has a commendable track record of consistent updates over the past few years. However, their communication with customers has been a weak point, and it remains unclear whether this is a cultural aspect or another factor.

Despite these reservations, I am placing my trust in Samsung to address the issue in a timely manner and provide a solution. While I acknowledge their deficiency in effective communication, I am hopeful that they will deliver a fix soon. I plan to activate my phone soon, as returning it may lead to missing out on potential resolution and result in having to repurchase the device later.

As more i used my s24u i just don't enjoy this dull display but in fact there's no much difference between vivid and natural it's obviously firmware/software issue. can't be right. ui 6.1 is a hot mess i have to say yeah i agree with you. for myself i didn't bought the s24u on samsung ... my misstake i took it with my carrier and thier return-refund policy is not so great to be fair. unless there's a global recall of the device for defective or false advertisement im probably stuck with it,

As for now i'll wait, just not happy with the current state of the product. still prefer my s22u at this point.

The washed out colours are only one of the big issues. The other one is the camera - I find the quality of photos very poor, oversaturated, not in focus, dark or too bright, etc. The light sensor is playing out - if I hold a camera before I press the shutter, the screen is going mad - it is either too bright or too dark, the phone can't measure the light correctly...The photos come out out of focus. The video quality is even worse. This is big shame for Samsung to sell this out of quality phones. It is an EPIC DOWNGRADE I have ever seen.

The colors on the phone look really washed out even with vivid. I just upgraded from an S22 Ultra, other than performance and some AI functionality, I'm really not impressed at all.

Definitely give us back the options to have widgets on the lock screen for some reason I struggled with this and please either send replacements with the screen color fixes or fix the bug if its a software issue. This phone was supposed to be my long use phone, no upgrade for a while phone.

This is already acknowledged and they are working on an update. It's a software thing, not a screen thing. I agree that the AI is underwhelming.
