Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

I just find it hard to understand what the brou ha ha is all about. My screen is vivid and gorgeous. There is a noticeable difference between vivid and natural. 20240203_230949.jpg

I'm soooo sad!! I turned on my new Ultra 2 days ago and just about puked! I have not had top of the line phones, but I have had Samsung the last 6 years, and my A71 is still waaaaay better. I thought it was me, and I showed a friend who agreed...something was off. Then I saw this thread. I love the draw features, but unless they come out with a REAL FIX, I've got 10 days left to return.

😒

How to fix the rotation issue.........Pull down your notifications panel. Hold down/long press the auto-rotate option. When it opens, select the lock screen. Now when you turn the home screen to landscape view and press the off power button, the AOD screen will be in landscape mode...........

Was there possibly a silent update pushed? I swear to all of you that I rarely get into the hype or placebo stuff. But I was just looking at my S24 Ultra directly next to my S23 Ultra right now and I can barely tell the difference in colors and saturation. It is almost identical side by side. Anyone else with both phones noticing this all of a sudden?

I just did the same thing. what I discovered was with the s23 at natural and s24 at vivid, they seem to be almost identical. But if s23 is set at vivid the image has more of a deeper contrast and a bit more saturated color. (because s24 vivid does not work).....Not a lot, but noticeable.....should be an easy bug fix....

Finally opened my 1TB Violet s24 ultra after its been a box for a week. Been reading and waiting to see if there is a fix coming. My return date is coming up next week so thought I'd finally test it out. Upon finishing the smart switch I noticed an immediate dullness of the display as others have mentioned. Went through and saw a lot of content and photos and compared it to my 22 ultra. It was no competition the colors just looked better in every scenario on the 22 ultra. Same settings max brightness and vivid on. I tried HDR videos and compared displays with the testmyscreen website and other images that have been floating around and it preformed worse is every one to the 22 ultra. I'm not entirely sure a software update will automatically fix all the displays faults. Think I'll ultimately return it and wait to see if they fix it down the road and pick it up on sale later on or wait for the 25ultra. I love the flat screen and weight of it but the display is the number one thing that matters in phones imo though. Shame since I have upgraded every two years since the s6 and this is the first time I have been disappointed.

This channel is reaching almost 100k views.... With far distance the most read post.

Yes, I like Samsung. The phone looks amazing, nice stuff on board etc.

Yes, there is an issue across all devices.

Yes, it's intentional.

Yes, all the influencers promoting this device sold their soul to make money only.

Yes, Samsung will keep it and won't provide an update (don't rely on a screenshot of a customer service person telling an update is coming for that. That's just to hold you back).

Yes, I'll send back the S24 Ultra. Saves time and money and nerves.

Yes, now I think about an Apple phone.

even i considering an Apple phone because its colors are accurate and don't lose saturation, while the Natural mode on the S24 Ultra is dull

To this degree, they are incapable of solving this problem and are looking at losing their customers and do not work. How loyal are Samsung’s employees to solve the problem? Are they loyal to Samsung or another company?

Or are they happy because we will stop using our phones because of this problem

They need to develop their management

I think this is the most reasonable way to look at it. I have 5 or 6 days left and I haven't sent in my S22+ for trade-in. If they don't address the issue soon, I will return the S24+. Just the weird obfuscation and non-communicativeness of Samsung on this one is not acceptable to me.
