Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24For your information, some people may accept the Natural mode if they fix its saturation, because it is currently inaccurate and needs a gamma correction only to track 2.2
Personally, I accept canceling the vivid mode, but I would like to increase the accuracy of the Natural mode

Galaxy S24Everyone might perceive colors differently. I keep my brightness way down. Maybe that's why I've always liked the Vivid mode. My husband likes his brightness way up. I would get eye stain if mine were that bright. Since Samsung has had the Vivid/Natural toggle for so long, they should keep it IMHO. Wonder why they would change it? Some kind of cost savings?

Galaxy S24It is frustrating to buy a new device and feel that you have lost money, and the product comes with a dull disappointing Display. The company can improve the product, but it does not respond to the requests of its customers, so you feel that you need to change the phone to a company that cares more about standards and presents the phone in a professional manner
Paying attention to the smallest details indicates creativity, so if you do not improve this matter, you leave room for others to outperform you
In every industry, you find a company that pays attention to the smallest details, and this is one of the secrets of success
Likewise, in the world of Display, whether phones or TV, you find a company that cares about reference and accuracy and provides options for users, while another company even has a bad Natural mode. Likewise, here with the dull Samsung phones in the inaccurate Natural mode, they were set by people who did not have sufficient experience, so they came out in this dull appearance.
It is painful that the product comes with excellent specifications and a beautiful design, but the essence is bad and needs modification
A flat Display after a period of time and a beautiful phone with a beautiful design, but you find yourself forced not to continue with them, unfortunately
All that money, a huge budget, and a well-known brand that doesn't take these problems seriously
You have the most color washed out in the phone industry

Galaxy S24@userpeaUKaXPup Like, WOW- so does my S23+ 8/256 GB compared to shiny new S24+ 12/512 GB
The "lowly" S23+ with SD 2 processor and 8 GB of RAM isn't looking so bad after all and, Choco Kooky font is "compatible" LOL
