Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24**bleep**. My two year old s22 got it right. Not bad. Looks like **bleep** on my shiny new S24+.

Galaxy S24UNBELIEVABLE! NOT EVEN A CHOICE TO CHOOSE MORE COLOR IN OUR LIVES!
BYE SAMSUNG!
Feb 03 Update:
"An email from Samsung's Spanish PR agency, seen by Spanish website states that changes to the Galaxy S24-series color reproduction are intentional and not a bug.
The message reads (machine translated from Spanish):
"We have adjusted the colors and brightness of the Galaxy S24 series products to provide a more accurate and comfortable viewing experience during use. Some changes have been made to the display technology to provide a more natural viewing experience, so users may notice differences in color depth compared to older devices. This display behavior is an intentional color adjustment and is not a product defect, so it is safe to use. To provide our customers with the best possible experience, we value your feedback and continuously improve our software (UX) as the market and consumer interests evolve."
While providing more accurate and comfortable viewing experience is to be commended, many users still prefer vivid colors over accurate ones. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will consider these complaints significant to warrant providing a new, more vivid, Vivid mode in a future update."

Galaxy S24Yeah I'm done with this as well. This long with no official statement by PR acknowledging the issue is unacceptable. I've been using Galaxy phones since the OG Galaxy S Vibrant, but my girlfriend's base model iPhone 13 looks better than this iteration.
I've been torn between a Samsung and a Sony for my new home theater OLED TV and after this experience that's become an easy decision.
What a way to tarnish a brand. Sending this piece of poop back and grabbing an upgrade from a competitor that listens to their customers.

Galaxy S24Just turn off the enhanced comfort in eye comfort shield. That option is the culprit for the this type of display colours.

Galaxy S24No, that's not the issue. Everyone is complaining about the new Vivid mode being dull and uninspired. And it is.

Galaxy S24Open Test My Screen | Easily test your screen for defects. Check if your display is getting a smooth gradient. You'll understand the defect in the display. My old s22 got it right. Not my shiny new s24 plus.

Galaxy S24The vivid toggle does nothing at all on my s24. My placing my s24 next to my s10e is a night and day difference. At least give us degenerates the option to use the REAL vivid mode again. Samsung is trolling us with the current implementation.
Edit: Also, the 'eye comfort shield' doesn't seem to anything either. Pretty much all color settings look washed out, cold and can't be changed. :'(
