S24 Display Quality & AOD Missing Options

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

Lmao I am definitely returning mine. Very glad I didn't send my trade in yet. This will be my last Samsung device, what a joke.

Does anybody know when the update is coming out to fix the s24 series.. I don't want to miss the return date. If there not going to fix this anytime soon. I'll just hang on to s23 ultra till s24 comes out. Soo disappointed with Samsung.

They're not fixing it apparently, the Samsung rep replied saying this is by design. It's unbelievable.

I received my phone last Friday 1/26. It is now Wednesday 1/31 (S24 official launch day) and still not a single official update from Samsung on the display issues plaguing the entirety of their flagship line.

I recommend everyone who purchased an S24 device do the following:

- Do NOT send in your trade in

- Start your return process for the S24 NOW

Even if you plan to wait it out to see if an update comes prior to your return window closing, if everyone begins the process now you will not only be sending a message to Samsung that we are not going to put up with this **bleep** but also you will secure your shipping label before they get absolutely flooded with requests.

The way Samsung has handled this issue (or lack there of) is completely unacceptable. This is a $1300+ flagship device in which we were bait and switched. I no longer trust this company at all and my S22 will be my last Samsung phone for the foreseeable future.

I called timeout before I placed my S24 order, you know. I would instead trade in my Tab S8 Ultra for a Tab S9 Ultra, though I may wait a bit longer until One UI 6.1 comes out.

Very disappointed too, I returned my S24 ultra. I'll keep my S23 Ultra but I can't justify the high price tag for defective products. I am considering looking at one plus 12 if I do upgrade. The price is half of S24 ultra.

I already sent my S23 plus yesterday. I noticed th screen issue to day of when I got it 3 days ago.
