Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24I think the best thing all of us that want the vivid option back and to enjoy the full experience of what this amoled screen can do according to them is to return the phone. If anyone likes it as-is, that's fine, consider it the natural mode and enjoy it.
I consider this as buying a Ferrari (it might as well be with it's similar high-end price tag) and having a governor on it limiting your speed to Vision Zero speed of 25MPH. For those who are buying the Ferrari of Android phones who don't want the governor, that option should be available, but it's not, not only is it not, Samsung refuses to acknowledge this issue. Some CSR's say there's a fix coming soon, some say it's designed as-is, some say just return it. However, Samsung knows exactly what the issue is from hundreds of posts in this forum as well as reddit and youtube and other sources like Forbes, Android Police, Andriod Authority, Sam Lover, SamInsider and numerous other sources.
The only way they will make an update to fully utilize Vivid Mode (while keeping natural for those who prefer it) is to return your purchase. If you keep it "hoping" it will be fixed, there's no incentive for them to do anything, it's been accepted by you and it's business as usual.
I just took a look at an iphone 11, and wow, that display is so much more vivid compared to this one. My S20U is in a league of it's own with it's gorgeous display.
On that note, if you haven't submitted your trade-in, wait until the last moment for any updates and if no updates come or the update doesn't fix it, then return it and keep what you have. Don't forget, if this is it, you might as well explore Apple, Motorola and Google Pixel at this point and see what they offer at your local carrier's store.
Good luck everyone.
"The Dynamic AMOLED 2X display on Galaxy S24 Ultra received a certification from VDE Germany for 100 percent Mobile Color Volume in the DCI-P3 color range, which means your images arenāt washed out and youāll get unbelievably vivid colors regardless of differing levels of brightness. The display can achieve peak brightness of up to 2600 nits, improving the contrast between dark and light aspects of digital content for a more brilliant picture quality, with a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio to make your mobile experience more immersive. Galaxy S24As a last ditch effort, if you still have time for the return period, I suggest sending emails to the CEO of Samsung America, at the very minimum, I hope our voice collectively is made loud and clear, this is unacceptable

Galaxy S24I agree, the Always on Display is too dim. It would really be cool only if it was brighter!

Galaxy S24I received my S24 on Monday and decided to send my trade in today and keep the S24.
Overall it's really nice and hoping a patch will fix the dull vivid mode.
I do have a question though and hoping someone might know how to fix. On my S10 when I view a community thread here it's broken down into pages/page numbers but on my S24 it's all one huge long thread I have to scroll through. I can't find any setting that changes it to pages.

Galaxy S24I decided that my S24 Ultra, a phone that was not-ready-for-prime-time, was a mistake and sent it back Monday. It was/is an even BIGGER mistake for Samsung to have released it. Anyway, the phone was delivered to the return center this morning and I'm awaiting a refund. Definitely will NOT be giving up my S22 Ultra for at least another year. The next time Samsung releases a flagship phone (S25), they'd better make sure they get it right = that it's ready to go, out-of-the-box (like my S-22 was). Samsung really messed up this release.

Galaxy S24Was hyped to get the phone then all this news about the screens came out. I have a 1TB Violet 24 Ultra in a box still along with the cases and accessories. Got until the 8th to do the trade in so waiting to see if they actually address it before I even open it. I'll probably compare the two phones next week hopefully with a patch to address it and decide there if I want to return it. I have upgraded every 2 years but to me the display is the number one factor in any phone. Its why I liked Samsungs in the first place, love my 22ultra and been using vivid mode since forever. At least give us the option for true vivid.

Galaxy S24I ordered the S24+ and the Ultra, Tried to put up with the horrible screens for days. Didn't want to be stuck with them, if they cannot fix the screen issues. Even the 1080p Flip4 looked tons better! Can't get rid of my S22U to downgrade
