Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

It is a big downgrade especially the camera, blurry lost detail background and noisy picture.

Yeah, I can see Samsung's copying from Apple because their color displays are also dull and now Samsung is following the same routine, like why is Samsung being so hesitant to them?

I also feel so angry & annoyed that they took out the picture option from AOD like why...?

It's a software issue. Samsung knows about it and are working on it. Vivid color is not working, so it's natural color which most don't like

Just out of curiosity did Samsung post anywhere that this is a software bug and they are going to fix it?

Sure! I think they didn't get enough  time to check the performance of their products  before  commercializing  them.

Get them to fix the camera software as well. Noisy, blurry, loss of details picture once you enlatge it. Focus is always running around and they thoight everyone wanna be a hipster to take blurry backround image. Whats the point if I stand infront of a pretty sakura scene all sakura turn noisy blur with only me clear and even my feet is not so clear? If you try flash at night backround enlarge you ll be surprise to see blur scenery. Take that away!

My colors are washed out compared to my very nice s21 ultra on my s24 ultra. And accubattery says it is charging at 4.45 volts and it won't charge as fast as my s21 ultra with my 25w charger it is slow.

Go to settings, display, screen resolution, switch to QHD+.
Pull down quick panel, brightness slider, 3 dots turn on extra brightness.

The clock thing download 3rd party Day Night Clock in play store.

I've already set it to QHD+, no difference.  It's also not a brightness issue,  it's a contrast/ colour richness and vibrancy issue, if you whack up the brightness the blacks are even more washed out.  It's like they've switched them from OLED to regular LED displays

I'll have a look at the 3rd party app thanks,  would prefer not to have to though as AOD should do what i need and invariably 3rd party apps develop their own quirks not being fully integrated into the ui.
