Just bought a Samsung S95D and the TV  does not reliably turn on through HDMI CEC ... I've tried using an Apple TV and a Playstation 5, both of which are set to turn the TV on through HDMI CEC and have the appropriate cables to do so (i.e. both of these devices turned my previous Samsung Q90T on without any issues prior to this TV).

This seems to be an issue  when the TV is off for more than an hour ... if the TV was just recently turned off (e.g. in the past hour), the Apple TV and the Playstation 5 are both able to turn the TV on. Anything more than an hour, the TV does not turn on successfully through these two devices

Hello! @wangvictorh Thank you so much for posting about this! I completely understand your concerns about the TV not turning on reliably through HDMI. I'll be more than delighted to assist. If you're using multiple HDMI-CEC devices try disconnecting one and see if the issue persists. Check your HDMI-CEC settings: Go to TV's Settings menu> Navigate to the "External Device Manager" or " General settings". Ensure that "HDMI-CEC "is enabled. Also, check to see if your firmware is up to date. Go to Settings> Support> Software.

If none of the above work you can Factory reset the unit( as a last resort). Here's a link you might find helpful: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00077524/

Please let us know if this helps.

I've tried reconnecting the HDMI cables on both devices and that does not seem to help.

I've also confirmed that HDMI CEC is on ... and have even cycled it off and on to make sure that the setting is truly on.

I've also confirmed that I am on the latest firmware for my Television (e.g. Firmware 1120).

I've also tried power cycling the Television and the HDMI devices ... I've also factory reset the television and I still have the issue.

It feels like there's some "deep sleep" setting that is preventing the TV from turning on after 1+ hour of being off ... because HDMI CEC does work through my Apple TV and PS5 if the TV was only recently off (e.g. < 1 hour). Turning the TV on in this specific scenario is possible through HDMI CEC

Thank you for that information. I would like to verify a few things with you. The issues are with devices different from AppleTV and PS5 or are they causing the trouble?  Are you connecting the devices directly to the television or are you using a splitter or receiver?

I’ve got the same problem also. I got it working reliably for a small amount of time but after swapping HDMI devices, it’s back how @wangvictorh described it.

CEC is on for both devices however the Apple TV cannot wake up the Samsung TV after about 10 minutes of the TV being turned off.

S95D with the latest generation Apple TV 4K.

The AppleTV is directly connected to the TV via HDMI1. I have a Samsung Q990D connected via eARC on HDMI3.

  • I have this same issue with my s95d. I'm using a Google TV 4k. Google TV can power off the TV via CEC, but cannot power it on via CEC if the TV has been off for more than a couple of hours. I have configured the Google TV to send the power commands via IR as a workaround. My two other TVs (two different brands not Samsung) are also connected to a Google TV dongle and power on via CEC works properly.

I have the same issue with my Samsung The Frame 65" (2024). Model QE65LS03DAU.

My connected Apple TV 4K can turn the TV off, and back on, but only within a short timespan after turning it off. As the other customers report, the TV seems to go to some kind of deep sleep. If I wait about an hour after turning the TV off via the Apple TV, the TV doesn't go on when the Apple TV turns on.

I tried with Apple TV connect directly to the Samsung TV and via an AVR.

I can confirm that all HDMI-CEC features work. Turning off and on works, but only within +/- 30 minutes. If I wait too long, turning on via HDMI-CEC no longer works, even though my AVR does turn on.

I can't think of any other reason besides the Samsung TV going into a deep sleep mode after a certain timeout, where it stops responding to certain HDMI CEC actions.

I hope that there is a software update available soon!

Same issue on my side with PS5 and Shield, really annoying.

Tv is good, but user interface and remote are c.r.a.p.

Source selection is really awful, ridiculous we can't do that simply.

Samsung TV plus and unwanted suggestions are really annoying too, amazing we cannot remove all these s..t on a 3k TV.

Having the S95D TV for 2 days, and still not sure I'll keep it or return it.

Perhaps Samsung need to hire competent people who know how to design great user interface.

At least fix the bugs and stupid user interface design NOW.
