Hello -

I have 3 APs in my house, one on each floor. One AP in the room where I work most often is Wifi 6e / 6Ghz capable. For some reason Fold 5 will only connect to 6GHz in this room if I toggle wifi off and back on on the phone or reboot it while on the room. If I walk out of the room and back in the room, it will only connect to 5GHz even though 6GHz provides better speed, less latency, and less interference.

I have a Pixel 6A that will roam to 6GHz just fine and gets much faster speeds. This is frustrating considering the Pixel costs a fraction of the Fold 5.

Windows laptop, MacBook, and iPad all roam to 6GHz and get 3-4x faster wifi speeds than Fold 5 in the same spot which stays on 5Ghz and never roams to 6Ghz.

There appears to be no way to set my Fold 5 to prefer 6GHz. This appears to be a Samsung bug with the roaming algorithm. I see many others have similar complaints with Samsung Wifi and 6Ghz. How can we get a fix?

I was resposing to your comment regarding the error report weirdness, not the roaming problem.  Safe Mode generally eliminates non factory installed apps from affecting the device.  I've never seen a report of Photo's popping up when trying to send an error report.

And just for your info, it has been reported that a router firmware update did solve a similar issue... iirc it was a Netgear router at the time.

In any event, this community is not a guarantee that Samsung will see the report of your issue, for that you need to submit an error report via the app or by calling tech support.

Got it. Sorry that I misinterpreted. There isn't any error for me to report so I'm not sure what I would be submitting. I can run Wispy and see the Fold 5 never scans on 6GHz on a roam. It will only connect to 6GHz if I toggle wifi off and back on or reboot the phone near the AP. Apple, HP, Honeywell, Zebra, and Google Pixel devices all seem to behave as expected, roaming to 6GHz.

I am posting from the members app now but can't figure out how to open a ticket through it.

Here is what I see when I follow your instructions and click Error Report. 1714254703069.jpg

Weird, I just sent a test error report with my Fold 5 and it worked. Perhaps that permission is required to send the system log though I've never done that.... hence my Safe Mode comment 😉

It appears I had to grant it access to all my Photos and Videos for it to move to the next step. Very bizarre. It popped up asking me to select a photo and I clicked off instead of pressing back and it moved to the next step. I was able to submit the report (although I still am not sure what it submitted). Thanks for the encouragement 🙂

Did Samsung reach out after reporting this issue ? I've had same issue and forced to toggle wifi on and off to use faster internet I have. @dpt3

Samsung never offered any fix on my Fold5. I traded it in for Fold6 and it appears to roam to 6GHz without issue. Frustrating as I don't think they are using different hardware, just an updated supplicant on the newer phone. Maybe they will backport the better roaming behavior?
