Green sensor lights during sleep mode

Hello everyone,

I loved my Watch6 until the new OS update in December 2024. Before that whenever the watch had sleep mode active, no green/red sensors would turn on during the night. I saw in other forums that it was a feature announced by Samsung, where the watch would only use invisible infrared light to monitor your sleep during the night.

After the update in December 2024, every couple minutes the watch start to light up its green light sensor even with Sleep Mode active.

I reached out to Samsung support but I was informed that this is normal, which is not true since it never happened before.

I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this since or if there is a fix for that.

I already tried to factory reset the device, update to this January's patch as well as turn off all possible sensors but the green light still comes up ever now and then during the night in Sleep mode.

Thanks!

Not being in the habit of watching my watch's sensors while I'm sleeping, I can tell you that when I wake up, for whatever reason, I do see flashes of red or green, so I know they always have been working during sleep mode. The red is for the vitals sensing, the green is the on-wrist sensor. Sometimes if you move your arm in your sleep, the watch shifts position and the green laser flashes to make sure it's still on your wrist. The red beams are not constant, but the only way they stop is if your heart does. If you are seeing these flashes, it either means you have momentarily woken up, or you are sleeping with your wrist near your eyes. If this is problematic for you, I suggest covering the watch while you sleep, either by keeping your arm down under a blanket, putting your arm under a pillow, or buying an athletic sweat band to put over your wrist at night. BTW, the red beam *is* infrared. Infrared does not mean invisible. So Samsung is not lying to you when they tell you this is normal.

While on sleep mode I mainly see the green light.

But as I mentioned, while on sleep mode before the update, the green light would never light up and now it lights up every now and then even if I'm not moving.

If this was normal I would just understand and simply not use the watch6 during sleep, but what bothers me is that only after the update in December this started to be an issue during sleep mode.

If you are seeing the green light, the watch may have loosened.

@thiagotho Have you tried turning off the AGES option in Samsung Health?

I think this is not an option on Watch6.

If I search the settings I see the text about AGES index, but when I click on it it brings me to the settings where there is no AGES settings to be found.

But as I mentioned, I have all sleep and everything else either set to manual or deactivated.

The only option that is on, the to detect if I'm doing an activity.

@thiagotho Ah, I think that you are correct. I thought it was coming to it in the update at the end of the year but it may be tied to the advanced sensors on the 7 and ultra.

Generally speaking, if you are being disturbed by the LEDs on the back of your watch, you need to tighten the watchband. I've had three different Galaxy watches and I have never had any issues with the sensors on the back of these watches disturbing my sleep.

Also have the same issue since the update. Was googling about this issue and found this post. It is really annoying as the green light is bright and, if you are a light sleeper like I am, it disrupts your sleep. I cannot believe Samsung have implemented this on their new update without the facility to turn it off ! If you do find a solution, then please let me know.

You are not wrong. It is happening to my watch as well after the update. The light wakes me up constantly during the night now and unfortunately my sleep score has gone downhill. I can't believe that they think this is an improvement
