I had this problem tonight with my Watch6. I had reset the watch five times.  And deleted backups, after resetting, before going through the process of adding a new watch again. Finally, after the sixth reset, everything from my Watch5 was transferred to my Watch6. From my Watch5 backup. All my watch faces, that I had purchased through Google, were now on my watch6. No idea what the issue was. But I'm just glad that everything finally transferred over.

Wow, so you had to already reset the 6. I'm going to try that. Thank you.

Thank you for reaching out. I can certainly understand your concern with not being able to back up your watch 5 and restore to your watch 6, and I would be happy to look into this further for you. Just to clarify before we go deeper into troubleshooting, your watch 5 says can't back up watch data is that correct?

Are you using the same Samsung account on both watch?

What error message are you getting when trying to back up via your phone and the wearables app? Give this link a try for steps to properly back up a Samsung Smart Watch: https://www.samsung.com/ph/support/mobile-devices/back-up-and-restore-data-on-samsung-galaxy-watch/

What type of device are you using with your watches?

Are you getting any errors with SmartSwitch? Give this link a try for Samsung SmartSwitch transfer symptoms: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01001215/

If you have tried the troubleshooting steps provided, can you please send us a private message with the information requested: https://bit.ly/3fbRevo

I just upgraded from the GW4 and *think* I have everything setup correctly (although it was more problematic than I anticipated).  However, I don't appear to be able to backup my settings to the Galaxy Wear app like I was able to on the GW4. It says I need to install the Samsung Smart Switch app (I'm on a Pixel 7 Pro, so not a Samsung phone) to backup my settings on the GW6.  This is supposed to only be for Samsung to Samsung devices to my knowledge, but even if I do install it on my Pixel 7, it never detects my watch... or really does much of anything.  So currently, I'm unable to backup my new watch's settings, faces, apps, etc...

Anyone seen this?

I would check out some Pixel forums, they may have a solution

@Rubberpantz It may not be possible to transfer your settings, as SmartSwitch is (to my knowledge) incompatible with Pixel devices.

Posting your issue here may garner some results:

Just realized on another post. Samsung had removed the ability to manually back up your watch. All you can do currently is set it to automatically back up. This is also the case for those who are in the watch beta. Not sure how often an automatic backup is supposed to happen, potentially every 24 hours of both items have enough charge.

That's annoying.  I don't think it will back up automatically either as it says in red lettering, "Download Smart Switch to backup data", which I think we've determined isn't compatible with Pixel phones.

Good job Samsung.
