Hello,

I recently purchased a Samsung - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV, and now that I have had it a few days, I am noticing that the sound pops every couple minutes or so. It makes no difference weather the volume is higher or lower it still pops, but the intensity of the pop does change with the volume. (Quiet pop/crackle when on a lower volume)  is there anyone who could give me advice on what to do, or maybe someone has had the same problem and has solved it?

What's worse is that they refuse to admit that there is a problem and don't care to fix it. There is no point in threatening to stop buying Samsung products, because they don't care about a handful of people.  All they care about is money.

from what i read online, this is a capacitor issue, common in samsung tv's. It isnt fixable by a firmware update. It will eventually get worse and the tv will not turn on.

I have been having the same issue with 2018 model 65" q9fn.  tv was working fine with sony soundbar and just started crackling randomly.  i also have had sound cut in and out as well as volume level issues.  i am connected through arc hdmi and have been since i purchased the tv.  i thought it might be the soundbar so i hooked it up to my other lg 4k through arc and no crackle or volume issues playing the same exact content.  this is clearly an issue with the tv.  for a nearly $4000 investment i am extremely upset that this many people have had this issue and there is still no fix.  this forum is 21 pages long so how can this issue go unanswered by the team at samsung?  can we please get a solid response as to what we should do to fix this problem?

@ userFBvegjVACJ I am sorry to hear this. Is it popping or cutting off through the soundbar or is it also happening through the internal speakers of the television?

sound is fine through tv as far as i have listened.  i don't really use the tv speakers.  i have noticed popping occurs during bass heavy scenes like explosions.  it also seems to be when playing movies using dd or dd+ as i do not usually hear it playing sd content like twitch or funimation.  popping also doesn't occur when playing movies that support dolby atmos, although there is a separate issue with those movies.  volume is about 40-50% when popping starts to occur, although i occasionally will hear it at all volume levels.  also volume level of soundbar randomly changes.  i have also noticed that arc only turns on the soundbar when tv is selected as source before shutting down.  this is clearly a design flaw as i do not watch the tv app as i have no interest in any of the stations it provides so why should i have to switch to it in order for my devices to work properly?  if i select the arc device itself as the source it will turn off with the tv but it will not turn on again.  like i said before soundbar works perfectly with other tvs just not the q9fn.  it seems to also have an issue regulating the signal it sends to the bar itself as there are cut offs if the content supports atmos and volume is extremely low unless i turn on the auto volume with the soundbar which amplifies it to acceptable levels.  this is also concerning because it seems to be another catalyst to the popping that occurs and i do not have to enable this feature when using other devices. the cut offs only seem to happen when watching movies or content that supports atmos.  not sure why but this is only time when it seems to happen, although i suspect this is a decoding issue.  could be with the vudu app itself since that is what i primarily use to watch movies but i have had issues with the xbox one x which supports atmos.  the popping occurs through multiple sources and at times almost seems to be damaging my soundbar itself.  mind you have a $1500 sony soundbar and am not about to have to replace it due to your product's mishaps.  hopefully this provides you with some more specific details.  this is clearly an ongoing issue with the set as this forum would suggest.  i think your company should consider offering compensation since this is affecting pretty much every owner that is using a soundbar through arc and is not brand specific.  we shouldnt have to start legal action to get resolutions as others have suggested on this forum.  you should be customer solution focused and let us know what you intend to do to fix this issue.  if hardware needs to be replaced then issue a recall.  if software needs to be fixed then update your firmware to address these issues.

Looks like your TV is up-to date on firmware. Can you test the TV speakers and advise if you hear these same pops? I'm thinking it may be something with the connection between the TV and the soundbar but not necessarily the TV itself.

dont hear any popping from tv speakers playing same content only from soundbar.  i am sure there is an issue with the connection, but i don't think that it is a physical one.  there are no obstructions between the connection between the two devices.  the cable is fine and i have also tried other arc compatible cables.  the soundbar works perfectly on my lg oled playing the same content using same sound codec.  there is an issue with the transmitting of data through arc and it seems like the box can't handle audio codecs that are above sd quality.  i have never heard popping using pcm only bitstream with dolby enabled.  another thing to note is i also have a wireless sub and two wireless rear speakers as well that will also pop during non-pcm playback so the connection just seems to be sending audio data the box just simply cant handle when using anything above a 2 channel signal.  i really don't think this is a defective unit.  everything i have experienced so far is pointing towards either a design flaw in the hardware or firmware within the box when communicating with external sound devices.  neither of which a replacement can fix.  if you would like to reproduce the error i am currently using the sony ht-z9f soundbar with wireless rear speakers.  the content i started hearing the popping on was the movie "how to train your dragon" using dolby digital + sound from the vudu app.  the cutting out was during playback of "the incredibles 2" also using dolby digital + sound from vudu app.  popping begins to occur at around 25-30 volume level on soundbar.   hope this helps.

It sounds like there may be a compatibility issue between how the TV and the Sony soundbar decode the sound. Honestly, there isn't much I can do to help fix that though. I will be forwarding this along to our development teams as a feature request to allow external decoding. I cannot guarantee they'll put in a fix, but I can at least put in the request for you. I am very sorry we couldn't help more.
